Overdraft Protection from Savings
Link your savings account to another Illini Bank account.
Secondary checking, savings and money market accounts may be used to avoid overdraft fees for customer checking accounts. When checks or other debits present against your account in amounts that would create an overdraft items, the bank will transfer funds from your linked account in $200 increments sufficient to cover the items (subject to funds availability in the linked account). Each transfer is $2.00. If the balance in the linked account is not sufficient to cover the items, all available funds will be transferred. Any remaining items that cannot be covered by the transfer will be charged overdraft fees or returned item fees. Linking a secondary checking account for overdraft protection transfers could result in overdrafts or returned items in the secondary account. Certain account types have transaction limitations; please speak to a representative to determine whether transaction limitations apply.
Note: Your savings balance may not be large enough to cover all items that have overdrawn your checking account that day. Once any single checking transaction exceeds the Available Balance in your savings, we will make a partial transfer with the remaining Available Balance in your savings to your checking, bringing your savings Available Balance to $0. A partial transfer will not fully cover an overdraft transaction but will, if the item is paid and not returned, reduce the resulting overdrawn balance in your checking. Any item(s) in the checking account that cannot be covered will cause your account to become overdrawn.
How to enroll:
If you are a new customer opening a personal checking and savings account, Savings Overdraft Transfer can be added at the time of account opening. If you already have an account, you can enroll by contacting your local Illini Bank branch.
